Measuring guide
Will it fit through the door?
Most delivery problems happen on the way in, not in the room. Get a tape measure and check these four things before you order a large piece.

Doorways
Measure the width and height of every door on the way in, including the front door. A sofa or bed frame usually goes through on its side, so compare the door width with the item's depth or height.

Stairs and corners
Find the narrowest point on the stairs and any tight turn or low ceiling. Long pieces need room to tilt around a landing.

Lifts
Measure the lift door and the inside width, depth and height. A sofa may have to stand on end, so check the diagonal too.

Room space
Mark the footprint on the floor with masking tape. Leave space to walk around it and to open doors and drawers.

How much room do you need?
Furniture needs space around it to be comfortable to use. Below are common rules of thumb, and the standard UK mattress sizes.
